Divisions

What are Divisions?

When you first sign up to play NHL Fantasy Stars, you are placed in a random group (a “division”) of 20 fans to compete against each other. You remain in this division for the entire week, accumulating as many fan points (FPts) as possible across all NHL game days during the week (3 to 7-game-day contest periods).

At the end of the week, the top 3 ranked users in your group of 20 are promoted to the next division (level). High-performing fans continue getting promoted week after week, climbing the ranks until they reach the top division — the top 20 players across all users in the game.

Lower-performing players may be relegated to lower divisions. This system ensures that all new users enter at the lowest division and compete against players of similar skill levels before progressing upward.

Objective of the Game

The goal is to climb the division ranks by earning promotions week after week and ultimately reach the top division, where the best 20 NHL Fantasy Stars players in the world compete.

How Divisions work?

  • Every new registered fan enters the game at Level 1 (“Minors”).
  • Each new fan is randomly assigned to a group of 20 fans.
  • A fan’s performance during the game week (total FPts earned within their division) determines which division they will compete in the following week.
  • Divisions are finalized the next morning at 10:00 AM ET, at which point fans are placed into their new division for the upcoming game week.
“My Division” RankNext Week’s Placement
1-3Promoted to the next division
4-14Remain in the same division
15-20Relegated down one division
  • At Level 1, there is no relegation. Only ranks 1–3 are promoted, while ranks 4–20 remain in the Level 1 division for the following week.
  • At Level 12 (the top division), there is no promotion. Only ranks 15–20 are relegated, while ranks 1–14 remain in the top division for the following week.
  • Tie-breakers in divisions: If there is a tie in FPts, the tie-breaker favors the user who signed up first. For example, if two users are tied for 3rd place, the user who registered earlier will be ranked 3rd, and the other user will be ranked 4th.

Global Leaders

While divisions are based on performance within a group of 20 users, Global Leaders is a leaderboard that includes every individual competing that week in NHL Fantasy Stars, regardless of division or rank.

At the end of the game week, users who finish at the top of the Global Leaders leaderboard receive coin prizes. Prize amounts vary each week; users can view the “Contest Details” on the home screen for specific payout information. In most cases, the top 2,000 users receive a coin prize.
